Science Extra Credit:
All extra credit has been factored in to all Process Skills Quizzes.  So Infinite Campus should reflect it.

Pearson Assessments

I've gotten quite a bit of questions surrounding our weekly Pearson Assessments. I'd like to address them and hopefully clear up any confusion.

The weekly Pearson Assessment serves 3 main purposes.
       1.  It is a diagnostic test that allows me to see whole
class and individual strengths and weaknesses.

       2. It gets students used to the format and content of OAA
questions they will see in May.

       3. It allows for post-assessment instruction. After they do
the 5 questions we will spend class time going over
           HOW to do them.
5 facts you should know about the Pearson Assessments.
      1.  Students may use calculators.

      2.  Students are NOT expected to know everything.
Students can't be expected to fully understand content that will be in a
comprehensive 6th grade assessment at the beginning of their 6th grade year.

      3.  They are only graded on its completion only.
However, those who do well will receive point-cards and praise for doing so.

       4.   No parental help is necessary.
If a student doesn't understand something I do NOT expect parents to
instruct them. In fact, my hope is that students do these assessments at
school during BCO time when they are in the classroom.
      5.    If frustrated move on.
If a student is feeling a sense of frustration over a problem I WANT
THEM TO go on to the next problem. They will be instructed on it later so
there is no need to make anyone anxious over material they may not
             have been instructed on.

In Class Today...

The kids had their 2nd (and final) Practice OAA test.  The test took all morning, they then went to gym, lunch, and recess, and returned to finish it up.

Math I:
Our target for the day was to classify numbers by using Venn Diagrams.  Here is an example of a problem:

All Whole Number 1 - 9 must be placed somewhere on this Venn Diagram

Students broke down into partners and started working on Problem 2.3  (A and B).  They will get more time tomorrow to finish it, we will then go over it, do an exit slip, grade the exit slip and then review for Thursday's Investigation 2 Quiz.

Math II:
Our 3 targets were...
1:  Recognize situations in which finding common multiples of whole numbers is important.
2:  Develop strategies for finding common multiples.
3:  Observe patterns in common multiples and use these patterns to predict.

We did some work as a class on finding LCM and GCF.  We then tried some problems surrounding Ferris Wheel's.  Like this:

Students will finish working on this with their partners tomorrow.

Speaking of partners, here is how we choose our partners randomly...

Students are randomly given a token numbered 1 - 14.

Students then have to find the person who has the same number, without talking.

Once students find a place to sit with their partner, they return their token to the cup.

200-point Clue (Yes, that's right...200 points!!) :

What is this a picture of?  If you know, then you'll find the point cards!!!
