Math  Tutoring....
A few of you have inquired about Algebra tutoring. After contacting the middle school I was told that there are a list of tutors available through the District Service Center.  You could certainly go that route, but I think I have a better option-- Miss Miller (Mrs. Miller's daughter).

Miss Miller, is a college student at Miami University where she is studying to become a high school Math teacher. Miss Miller has helped out in our class frequently, she's familiar with the kids, she really knows her stuff, and with the help of her mom, who was the building gifted coordinator last year, will have a handle on the expectations for next year.  Also, I should note, Mrs. Miller is better than I am at Math.  She REALLY knows her stuff.

Now I don't know her going rate, we never discussed it, and I would feel somewhat responsible if for whatever reason she takes jobs for $2 an hour (trust me, us teachers can easily be taken advantage of) but I can tell you-- If I was tutoring, I would charge $50 an hour.  For someone like Miller, I wouldn't expect anything less than $25.  Understand, that more than just the hour goes into the tutoring-- there's prepping, tracking, assessing; etc that can easily take an additional hour to do.  I will say that a good tutor is EASILY worth the money.  Last summer,  I paid VERY well for a reading tutor for Tristan and he jumped 2 reading levels in that summer.

If you are interested in contacting Mrs. Miller her email is:  mille631@miamioh.edu

Also, I created 3 Algebra Tests on Pearson and assigned them to Math II.  All the questions are tied to 8th grade Algebra Strand from the Core Curriculum, they include the following :

  • Describing a Pattern
  • Variables and Expressions
  • Writing Algebraic Expressions
  • Using Number Sense to Solve One-Step Equations
  • Understanding Proportions
Just log on to Pearson if you want to try your hand at them.

I also found a good website that contains worksheets that parents can print off for their student, here:

Hayes Picture...
As promised, here is the picture that was presented to Mr. Laffin.

The Pink Geocache...
I heard the pink geocache is too hidden.  A hint:  as you walk the perimeter of the woods, a path will be seen...take that path.

Have a GREAT Summer....
What a fantastic year!!  I will miss you all.  Please come back and visit!!
