What a fantastic school year!! You are a great group of kids and I really hate seeing you go.
Nothing inspires me more than to have past students come back and say hi. So, PLEASE come back and visit...you'll be doing me a favor.
Good luck in middle school, and have a great summer!!
Hall of Fame...
The whole reason we played the 'Champions Game' is because I believe that people give more of themselves when they compete as a group or team. It also adds an element of fun to school, not to mention the benefits from collaboration, socialization, yada, yada, yada.
Anyhow...to get into the Hall of Fame a student must have been on a winning team for 10 of the 36 weeks of school.
Since I started keeping track of wins 10 years ago 44 students have been inducted into the 'Morgan Hall of Fame'. This year 4 students were inducted. Congratulations to Abby, Luke, Grimm, and Sydney!!
Parents, I Leave You With This...
I am a huge proponent of Project Based Learning, which you can tell by looking at what we did this year:
* Mineral Identification Kit PBL
* St. Patty's Day LED PBL
* March Madness Project
* Cell Analogy PBL
* Island Simulation PBL
* Pringles PBL
* $50 billion (egg drop) PBL
* Ratios and Proportions Gameboards PBL
* Mapping the School PBL
* SESA Technology Challenges (remember the raft and the
satelite phone?)
* Invention Convention
* Fed Ex Days
There is so much value in these projects. People at the university level will tell you that. People in STEM will tell you that.
Unfortunately, I feel that our current educational system is not conducive to this type of learning. I feel that the idea of doing things in the 'best interests of the kids' has been replaced with doing things in the 'best interests of getting kids to score well on a single 40-problem test'.
Just my 2 cents. I feel that the more I get my viewpoint out there, the more it can spread to others. I'll see myself down from the soapbox now. :)
