Mrs. Miller Saves the Day!!...
As I mentioned before, this week's Resiliency Question really stumped me. So I went to my friend and colleague, Mrs. Miller (semi-resident Math expert for Hayes) for help. :) As I expected, she was able to guide me to an understanding.
Let me explain.
Here is the question at hand...
I was able to draw the polygon and compute the area for most all of it. What I couldn't figure out was the area of the 2 triangles that were NOT right triangles, given that I didn't know the height (A = 1/2 b * h).
Mrs. Miller came through!!! Those 2 triangles I was talking about--- they FIT into the original quadrangle!! Don't believe me. Look for yourself.
