Math Resiliency........

After 2 days of furious study and headache-inducing frustration, our problem was solved.

Solved by 2 students-- Raj and Aaron.

These two are the epitome of resiliant (not that there aren't others), I'm very proud of both.  The problem wasn't fun or intriguing.  It was taxing, and exhaustive. Sorry, I didn't realize it was going to be like that at the time I assigned it.

Way to come out of the pile with the ball, you two!!

Raj had 4 pages of this stapled together.

Aaron's visual representation helped him gut this one out

Pascals Triangle, a little on Fractals-- now it's time to get off this exit and back on the old curriculum highway....

Fractals are patterns that are the same near as they are from far.  Currently fractals are shaking up the world of mathematics.  An old student, Udit Basu, practically a math celebrity around here, used to create these in my middle room for many BCO periods.

Simple Fractals

A bit more complex fractals...

Yesterday we looked at Fibonacci's Sequence (see below)...

Today we looked at Pascal's Triangle (see below)...

Did you know that Fibonacci can be found in Pascals Triangle ? (see below)

Fibonacci can be found in Fractals (see below)

Cool, huh?

In Class Today...
Science:
Lesson 4: What are the Laws of Motion? in Chapter 15: Forces and Motion. We read, answered questions collaboratively and individually, and took notes.
Writing:
I checked students informational planning guides. We started working on putting the information from our planning guides into graphic organizers. Later we will use our graphic organizers to help us write our rough drafts.
Math I:
Briefly reviewed Investigation 2, then took the Bits and Pieces Investigation 2 quiz.
Math II:
We went over the Math Resiliency question from a few days ago. We took a Partner Quiz over Bits and Pieces: Investigation 3.
