Wordstudy List #18 Quia: http://www.quia.com/jg/2517784.html
The Complaint Department....
Trust me, I do not like complaining on this blog. Nobody likes to hear from a whiny and frustrated teacher. Heck, that's like an absolute-- a rule. Like-- Getting a shot at the doctors is unbearable. Standing in line at the post office is boring. Listening to a teacher complain is excruciating.
In fact, I'm pretty sure the Disney channel has a standing policy where every sitcom must have one show out of 10, where the antagonist is an old, dismayed, frustrated, complaining teacher .
Well, I'm sorry. But I just gotta. ..
Outside of Math 1 getting a mean score of 90% on their Quiz, this week has had few positive moments.
A few complaints off the top of my head..
* Math II isn't completing Pearson. Math I is completing it, but not trying.
* The Wordstudy Tests this week had 10 F's. 10!! I've never, ever, ever had that many F's from any of my Writing classes in the past. I threw them away and have already started brainstorming ideas on what to do next week.
* Math II did an awful job on ACE work yesterday and today, and its NOT that you don't understand it, because I'm looking at your mistakes. Example: when the question asks you to subtract fractions and the answer is larger than either of the original-- then I know you don't care about what you produce.
* In BCO people are outright lying to Mrs. Culp and I about the work they have done, so they can go to the library, or play Math games; etc. ..and let me say this--if I ever got a call from Tristan's teacher telling me he was dishonest, I wouldn't be angry-- I would be hurt. Think about that for a second.
This is not the culture we want in our classroom. If we want 'no homework' then we have to give more at school. We have to be productive from the moment we walk in, to the moment we walk out.
Obviously, this rant isn't directed towards everybody.
We will talk more next week. For right now, be prepared to get after it on Tuesday I know what we are all capable of, and I know we can turn this around.
Have a good weekend.

In Class Today...
Science:
We worked on brainstorming for our inventions. I told the kids 2 stories, one on the invention of the band aid and the other on the invention of lifesaver candy. We then listed ideas, organized our lists, and then went to a teacher (Myself or Mrs. Schall) to seek their thoughts and advice. We also did some research.
Writing:
Took the Wordstudy Test.
Math I:
Finished our lessons on Stem-and-Leaf plots.
ACE Work? No.
Math II:
Bits and Pieces 2: 2.2: Visiting the Spice Shop (adding and subtracting fractions)
ACE Work? Yes.
