Out Tomorrow...
I will not be here tomorrow. All 3 of my kids have doctors appointments. 2 have a normal check-up, and 1 is sick. Sorry..
Geocache....
Poignant Quote...
To the parent I talked to earlier in the day. I really like these two quotes, and I find them relative to what we were discussing..
An education isn't how much you have committed to memory, or even how much you know. It's being able to differentiate between what you know and what you don't.
- Anatole France
Education is the ability to listen to almost anything without losing your temper or your self-confidence.
- Robert Frost
Practice OAA....
In September students took a 6th grade Practice OAA test in both Reading and Math. Today and tomorrow we will take another 6th grade Practice OAA test in Reading and Math. We shared the first one with parents back in November during conferences. We will share the results of these with parents during our conferences in February. Hopefully, we will see improvement. :)
Changes in our Science Calendar.....
Due to Culp needing to see her Reading classes today, I had to have Science with my Math rosters. Meaning I didn't have students matched up for CAP's, and now my calendar is out of wack. I will modify it and notify all with changes at a later time.
Vocabulary Squares....
A good game for strengthening vocabulary words is vocabulary squares.
Vocab Squares is a lot like the old game show $100,000 pyramid. Students have to come up with ways to get their partner to say a Vocabulary Word without saying the word (or part of it-- or rhyming it). Partners do it in front of the class. I project a grid onto the board. One person sits down in front of it facing away, the other faces towards it.
Like this:
The top partners? Lilly and Jenna for the 1st class. Aaron and Darshan for the 2nd Class.
In Class Today.....
Science:
Watch some animation of cells going through the cell cycle. We went over our Science terms in class. In groups we prepped for Vocabulary Squares. We played Vocabulary squares.
No Writing or Math Today due to Practice OAA Testing.
My Weekend.....
Cooper and Brooklyn at the Mall.
Tristan had 2 basketball games. Upward and the YMCA.
Went to Dave and Busters. Tristan hit the Jackpot on the Spin-N-Win. Took 15 minutes for all his tickets to come out.
Tristan went to a birthday party at the World of Bounce on Saturday.
Most of you don't know this, but I have a mentally handicapped brother named Mark. I am very proud of my brother, who at the age of 40, was able to finally get a place of his own this past summer.
I have never met a harder working, happier, and more inspiring person in my life. On Sunday I picked him up at his new apartment, took him out to eat, to a movie, he spent the night at my house, and then in the morning I took him out for breakfast and then back to his apartment.
