Basketball Rivalry Created....
Word is Allyson, Autumn, and Grace were able to knock off Logan, Sam, and Riley in basketball today.
Now, I'm not sure if it was in gym or at recess, but I do know that it's a big deal because those boys can play.
I'm very proud of you girls and want to give you some props.
So, here ya' go..

DNA Extraction Lab....
Today, we did a really cool lab-- we extracted our own DNA and looked at it.
Obviously our DNA is microscopic, however, if you can get enough of it to clump together you can see it.
The Supplies:
Step #1: Attain LOTS of cells. We got cheek cells by swishing Gatorade around in our mouths and spitting it back in the cup.

This group was a bit more demonstrative getting their sample. |
Step #2: Now that we have the cells we have to break apart the cell and nuclear membranes that house the DNA. We break them apart with soap.

Step #4: We gotta wait 10 minutes for the enzymes to do their trick, so while we wait we will work on the Lesson 3 Quiz.

Step #5: Now that the enzymes have completely unpackaged all the DNA, let's try and create a layer at the top to precipitate all the clumping DNA out of into view. To do this we added freezing cold isopropyl alcohol.
Then, we wait and suddenly hundreds of thousands of clumped together strands of our DNA come out for us to see.
The white strands in the pictures below are DNA.

My Weekend......
Saturday, Tristan had a bball game, later on we were finally able to find the rare Nike Elite socks in youth size that Tristan's been wanting. We've been searching forever and we finally were able to get a pair.
Also, on Saturday, my in-laws came up from Dayton to watch Tristan play basketball and spend the day.
