Parents of the 90's......
You remember Pearl Jam, don't you??

You have to. They were HUGE!!!

Well, I was a very big Pearl Jam fan back in college.  So, when I needed to model the Song Analysis paper for my Writing class, I used the Pearl Jam song Daughter.

Eddie Vedder wrote the song about a girl with a learning disability who's parents mistake her disability for misbehavior and treat her horribly. Vedder paints a wonderful picture. To me, he's always been a talented, underrated song-writer.

I love how in Daughter, he describes what the girl is seeing physically, and intertwines it with her emotions. It seems like 1-part lyrics and 1-part screenplay. You hear it, see it, and feel it.

Check out how it dives in and out of what the young girl perceives physically and emotionally.

Young girl's physical setting--

"Alone...Listless...
Breakfast table, and otherwise empty room.

Young girl...Violins....
Center of her own attention"

Young girl's emotions--

'Mother reads aloud, child tries to understand it...tries to make her proud'

" the shades go down (this actually means she closes her eyes, a metaphor that Vedder uses in a lot of his songs) , it's in her head..''

Then quickly back out to the setting..

''..painted room"

Now,  back to emotion.

'Can't deny that something's wrong.'

Then  BOOM....A powerful chorus of

'Don't call me Daughter, not fit to....
The picture kept will remind me.'

Followed later on by the even more powerful line of..

"She holds the hand that holds her down....She will RISE ABOVE...""

Great song....Ahh...I miss the 90's...

Invention Convention Final Results...
I assessed 2 more inventions today.  I still have 1 more left but it looks likely that it won't be done in time to qualify for Columbus State. If they get it to me tomorrow, I can still qualify it.
