Friday's Geocache Challenge...

What an awesome turn out.  For the record, I know Andrew P (1st one to find), Autumn, and Kathryn found it, but there were also two others.  There were scores of others who went, but couldn't find it because it was gone.

Obviously, it's not very cool to be looking for something that isn't there...Sorry.

So, let's fix it. Next week, we'll leave the geocache there and I'll pick it up.  Just sign your name and I'll get you a card on Monday.

Math II: Investigation 4 Quiz

I graded and entered most into Infinite Campus. I still have a few who need to finish up: Michaela, Sophia, Kathryn, Kaitlyn (you forgot to do the 3 problems on the back-- see me) and Kennedy.

I will do a quiz breakdown once I get those 5 quizzes entered.

Math Resiliency Question...

The answer:  6.5 tomatoes equal one head of cabbage.

Congrats to:
Andrew C., Michaela, Cayla, Jaz, Nate M., Raj, Allyson, Aaron, Kurt, Nathan Cr., Darshan, Sophia, Grace, Connor, Kathryn, Fiona, Olivia, Calista, Miah, Andrew P, Autumn, Alaina, Veronica, Caitlyn, Courtney

Please note:  I will not be taking any more of these without the work behind it.  I'm starting to question if people are just asking others for the answer and not doing the work......So, next time-- show your work!!

This week's Pearson Challenge:

Sophia/Andrew C    vs.   Autumn/Nate Ca.

Winner gets 500-point cards and control of the seating chart!!

Papa John's Dollar for Dough...

Any student in my homeroom that does this will recieve 50-points for each dollar.  C'mon, its for a good cause (YOU) and  besides, it's a great excuse for PIZZA!!!!

My Weekend.....

Went up to Indian Lake to fish and then went to the Harvest Festival at Hurley Farms.

Playing at Mamaw's and Papaw's place at the lake.

Father-in-law showing off his catch.

Cooper experiencing a 'bounce house' for the first time.

For the record he got a spare.

Brooklyn and Tristan painting pumpkins

At basketball

Cooper went with us...

Brooklyn went too, but she took some toys to keep herself entertained

For lunch went to a sub shop in Dublin...Cooper's big brother and sister taking care of him.

In Class today.....

Science:
We read section 2 of Rocks and Minerals.  We also  took a lot of notes.

Writing:
We went over the words and definitions for this week's wordstudy lists.  Final copies for our Descriptive Journal entries are due on Thursday, 10/11.

Math I:
We started Investigation 4 of Prime Time:  Factorizations for Factor Strings.

What is a factor string?

A string of factors that when multipluied together equal that number.  Example:  100 has a lot of factor strings...

Here are some 2 factor strings:    1 x 100,  2 x 50, and 10 x 10
Here are some 3 factor strings:    2 x 2 x 25, and 2 x 5 x 10
The longest possible factor string for 100 is:  2 x 2 x 5 x 5     (do you notice anything about this?)

After trying some out we went to this Product Puzzle:

Then I assigned the below questions #1, 2 and 3 to be finished before the end of BCO.  However, if students don't finish by then, they may turn it in tomorrow...Although, I'd rather all work be done at school.

Math II:

We finished up Investigation 4 (some students are still working on it) on Friday.  Now we are on the last Investigation (#5) for Prime Time.   The thing that I ABSOLUTELY LOVE about Connected Math is the final 'unifying question'.

Taking the skills they learned in Investigation 1, 2, 3 and 4 students have to solve a really large. complicated, multi-step problem.

I present to you......The Locker Problem!!!!

Yeah....as of right now the students absolutely HATE this question.  Sorry.

Anyhow, we discussed strategies and then decided that it would be too arduous of a task to draw 1000 lockers and open and close them with each student.

Instead we decided to do a fraction of it, or a sample.

We decided on 100 as a plausible number.
Students should have created a grid of 100, and ran each student number (or multiple) though.  Tomorrow, we will look for patterns and see if we can't solve this problem.

100-point clue:

Too many people are "stealing" cards by waiting for people who actually looked at the clue to go get one, and then just following.

So , let's pull a fast one on them.

Everyone go look under my tissue box and grab a fake card....when people follow you and grab one-- laugh at 'em!!

Now, for the actual clue...grab a post-it note from my front table and tell me (by writing it down), what this is a picture of in my room.   1st 5 to get it right get a 100-point card.

  2. It seems I'm on the right track, I hope I can do well. The result was something I did and was doing to implement it.
